The chickpea is widely grown for its nutrition’s seeds. Also known as garbanzo beans, it is a staple in the Mediterranean diet. Falafel and hummus both are chickpea-based foods. Hummus, a paste made of chickpeas and additional spices, is delicious slathered on pita. Falafel, meanwhile, are patties made of ground chickpeas and then deep-fried. Both foods are a great plant-based source of protein and pack a hefty serving fiber-not to mention, are a much healthier alternative to most foods you can eat when you’re on the go.
